This is my favourite social area in Melbourne for meeting people, and is borderline my 3rd place at this point, so im very biased.
Ive been a happy regular here for quite some time. I think its great, and you should at least check it out.
Centrally located, this is a good old fashioned Aussie pub. It gives the vibe of a small town saloon that had a city grow up around it. I've only given 3 stars on the food, as I would say they serve above average pub food, but its also solid pub food, not fine dining, and I dont want to mislead you.
Drinks are, as expected, great. Its a real aussie pub experience, all around.
The staff are more than friendly, they have never failed to make accommodations for their patrons as long as ive been there, which is many years now.
Really, I cant even review the casual experience anymore, because for their regulars, ive seen such a willingness to engage, which it feels is such a rare thing to find in a company these days.
Not just a pub, for me, their core draw is that they host a variety of events, notably games each Wednesday at 6pm, alternating 'blood on the clocktower' (a social deduction), or general tabletop/board games (on the alternate fortnights), and many others.
Ages vary from young or old at these events, but as a pub of course, it is fortunately child free, permitting an adult space to socialise, hang out, and generally have a good time.
Especially if you are new to Melbourne, or just looking to meet someone at a bar, I would at least make a visit, and feel a bit of that still going old Melbourne charm, and seriously consider engaging with one of these events and potentially earning some lifelong friends, or a new hobby.

Place is such a vibe, bar tills didn’t work in the morning but the staff didn’t hesitate to provide us service, friendly staff helping with food selection. Bartender didn’t judge me grabbing two beers on arrival for myself,
Which made me feel at home. Definitely would recommend. I have 5 days in Melbourne and definitely will be back

Found the ultimate spot for a weekend pint! 🍻 The Melbourne Central Lion Hotel is a proper English pub with massive seating areas and ice-cold beers (and yes, they do a great Guinness pour! 🇮🇪✨). It literally has the holy trinity of a good night out: pool tables, live sports on the TV screens, and dart boards. Def worth checking out! 🎯🎱

Amazing starters and drinks specials. The main meals and the deals run daily are very cost effective! The low lighting and great selection of music, makes this a nice place for a casual dinner or drinks event.
